Medical Weight Loss
Weight loss is something with which millions of people struggle. As you know, your weight doesn’t just contribute to your physical appearance. Your weight and the amount of fat in your body can help or hurt your body by contributing to either a healthy physique or lead to medical issues such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease. Weight loss is not just about restricting calories, which is what most people try to do. Weight loss is really about correcting your nutrition, managing your stress, and for some, working with or around chronic diseases and medical conditions.
Hormone Replacement Therapy
Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is used to treat both men and women experiencing imbalances or drops in their naturally-occurring hormones. Hormones are responsible for most of your essential bodily functions, so when they are disrupted in any way, cascade effects across all your systems can ensue.
Most commonly, BHRT is utilized to ease symptoms of perimenopause and menopause, although we can use them to treat a wide range of conditions, including:
- Mental clarity
- Low sex drive or libido
- Incontinence
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Andropause
- Fatigue
- Erectile dysfunction
- Insulin resistance
- Adrenal and thyroid disorders
- Osteoporosis
- Fibromyalgia
- Cancer
Symptoms that are common with menopause such as hot flashes, night sweats, mood changes, memory loss, weight gain, sleep issues, and low libido can be dramatically improved with BHRT. For many other conditions, BHRT can improve vitality, energy, mental clarity, mood, weight loss, and even muscle strength!Hormones are a vital part of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. No one needs to suffer the symptoms of hormone imbalance, and at Jacksonville Health and Wellness Center, we are confident we can find the right solution for your unique needs.

Symptoms of hormone imbalances can include:
- Decreased sexual desire
- Vaginal dryness or painful intercourse
- Irregular menstrual cycles and skipped periods
- Infertility
- Pelvic pain
- Increased or reduced hair growth
- Depression
- Prolonged symptoms of menopause
- Morning sickness or other pregnancy-like symptoms
To combat these hormone imbalances, we offer bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT), which replaces the missing hormones with those that are biologically identical to them. Your body is less likely to have an adverse reaction to them since they are otherwise indistinguishable from those your body already produces.

Estrogen is predominantly produced in the ovaries, but small amounts come from the adrenal glands and fat cells, as well as the placenta during pregnancy. Estrogen is vital for puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause. It also affects the brain, skin, hair, urinary tract, cardiovascular system, and musculoskeletal system.

At Jacksonville Health and Wellness Center, we treat patients through the use of integrative medicine, which takes into consideration much more than just your symptoms. We pride ourselves on treating the person, not the illness or disease. As such, we may ask several questions about your lifestyle, other conditions you have, family and medical history, nutrition, activities, and hobbies, as well as any symptoms or signs you have. We assess all of this so that we can take a multi-faceted approach to your care, integrating treatment options from a wide array of medical disciplines so that you receive a truly personalized treatment solution.
We believe that through this integrative approach, we can minimize adverse side effects, and help you feel your best sooner. You are the center of your care, and as such, you and your doctor are partners in achieving your health and meeting any goals you have. You are more than your symptoms, and we strive to resolve the root of the problem, rather than merely making symptoms go away temporarily. We also work with you to prevent future illnesses and believe a proactive approach to health and wellbeing best serves our patients and the community.

Some of the symptoms of hormone imbalance in men include:
- Fatigue
- Insomnia
- Weight Gain
- Inability to Maintain Muscle Mass
- Brain Fog
- Decrease Sexual Performance / Libido
- Depression
- Anxiety
These symptoms of male hormone imbalance may stem from a variety of conditions in addition to an imbalance of male hormones. Talk with your medical provider to confirm that the source of these problems is an imbalance of men hormones and not from another condition.
request an appointmentTestosterone
For men, the primary sex hormone is testosterone. It is produced by the testes, and the level of production is controlled by the pituitary gland and brain. From the testes, testosterone moves through the blood to perform a wide range of essential bodily functions, including:
- Red blood cell production
- Sperm production
- Bone mass
- Muscle mass and strength
- Libido
Testosterone production is at its highest between the ages of 20 and 30 and begins to decrease gradually after about age 35. As testosterone levels decrease, it can cause several problems which may include:
- Diminished sex drive
- Erectile dysfunction
- Urinary problems
- Low sperm count
- Enlarged or tender breasts (caused by an imbalance of testosterone and estradiol)
- Decreased muscle mass and strength
- Decreased bone strength
- Fatigue
- Decreased fertility
- Depression
- Hair loss
In addition to testosterone, men also produce estradiol – a necessary form of estrogen created by the conversion of testosterone. If these sexual hormones become imbalanced, bodily chaos can ensue, potentially wreaking havoc on your health, energy, love life, and confidence. Thankfully, there are several bioidentical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) options available to men who’ve been diagnosed with low testosterone (“Low T”) or a sex hormone imbalance.
At Jacksonville Health and Wellness Center, the primary routes of therapy we offer include oral hormones, creams and gels, and pellet therapy, which are implants the size of a rice grain placed under the skin to deliver a consistent, low dose of testosterone for up to six months. These hormones are derived from naturally-occurring sources, which means the body doesn’t know the difference between the therapeutic hormones and your own natural hormones (referred to as endogenous hormones). This dramatically reduces the number of side effects and increases the overall efficacy of the treatment.

Cardiovascular Health
Our cardiovascular health program aims at designing a science-based, individualized, and precision healthcare assessment addressing the fundamental disease process that increases our risk for poor cardiovascular health outcomes. It is all involved with a focus on genetic predisposition, lifestyle exposure, nutritional status, and disease state. The program is formulated to improve cardiovascular health outcome.
Gastrointestinal Health
The gut, with all the associated organs, played a significant role in our overall health status. Our gut is actually a bigger brain and controls a lot of other organ functions and health status. Maintaining a healthy gut is the beginning of a good health outcome. Our gut microbiome is involved in a lot of our organ functions and health process. Nutritional detoxification and modified intermittent fasting improve gastrointestinal stress, boost energy level, and immune status.
Detoxification
Intermittent detoxication helps organs restore their function to peak level. This can be done via intermittent fasting or the use of herbs. This allows the liver, gallbladder, and gut lining to rejuvenate. Since the gut is our first line of immune defense to most microorganisms, our intestinal microbiome balance is vital to our health.
Immune Health
The immune system protects use against external and internal stressful elements through the process of inflammatory response. When this response is short-term, fast, effective, and efficient, it is to our advantage. The problem arises when the process persists and becomes longstanding with the development of chronic inflammation in the body. This process leads to a significant disease state and an advanced aging process. Fully understanding and applying integrative medicine knowledge to address this chronic inflammatory state help to abort the process and restore good health status.
Stress Management
Through lifestyle changes, nutraceuticals, and nutrition a balance in stress management can be achieved. This process uses natural mood-promoting nutraceutical blends that are specifically made to help in stress management.
Longevity Medicine
There is a difference between chronological age and biological age. While our chronological age is based on time spent, our biological age is linked to the length of our telomeres. There are scientific means to measure this element and ways to slow down to shortening process.
Memory Health
Our scientific knowledge is improving from laboratory and clinical research into the root cause of memory deterioration and brain age. There are promising solutions to prevent and reverse memory impairment. There is a specific test that can identify the need for supplementation to improve memory function. Maintenance of appropriate and adequate micronutrients and macronutrients will help brain function.
